Check emails
in Excel.
Type one formula and get Valid, Invalid, Catch-all or Disposable for any address. 50 free checks a day, nothing to sign up for.
Install it
Pick your setup. Each one takes about ten seconds.

-

powershell, open it, paste, press Enter.irm https://verifyemail.verifyemail-worker.workers.dev/install | iex
-
Open Excel and type a formula
Try
=VERIFYEMAIL("someone@example.com"). The cell says “Verifying…” for a few seconds, then fills in by itself.
Prefer a file? Download it and double-click. Windows may ask you to confirm, since the file came from the internet.
Download installerMac beta
-
Quit Excel
-
Open Terminal and paste this line
Press Cmd and Space, type
terminal, press Enter, then paste and press Enter.curl -fsSL https://verifyemail.verifyemail-worker.workers.dev/install-mac | bash
-
Turn it on in Excel
Open Excel and go to Insert, then Add-ins, then My Add-ins. Under Developer Add-ins, click VerifyEmail.
-
Type a formula
On Mac it is
=VERIFY.EMAIL("someone@example.com").
To remove it, run the same line with VE_UNINSTALL=1 before bash.
Excel on the web
-
Download the add-in file
It is a small manifest file that tells Excel where the add-in lives.
-
Upload it in Excel
Open a workbook in Excel on the web. Go to Home, then Add-ins, then More Settings, then Upload My Add-in. Browse to the file and click Upload.
-
Type a formula
On the web it is
=VERIFY.EMAIL("someone@example.com").
Excel on the web forgets the add-in if you clear browser data or switch browsers, so you may need to repeat step 2.
Use it
The second argument is optional. Pick a detail to get it instead of the summary.
| Formula | You get |
|---|---|
=VERIFYEMAIL(A2) | Valid, Invalid, Catch-all, Disposable or Unknown |
=VERIFYEMAIL(A2,"quality") | good, bad or risky |
=VERIFYEMAIL(A2,"didyoumean") | a suggested fix when it looks like a typo |
=VERIFYEMAIL(A2,"free") | TRUE for Gmail, Yahoo and similar |
=VERIFYEMAIL(A2,"role") | TRUE for sales@, info@, admin@ |
=VERIFYEMAIL("help") | every field, with a description |
On Mac and on the web the name has a dot in it: write VERIFY.EMAIL wherever the table says VERIFYEMAIL.
Fill the formula down a whole column. Lookups from all those cells are sent together, so a long list is not slow.
How it works
A hosted Worker sits between the add-in you install and a verification service.
Excel
The add-in asks for answers. Cells are batched, so hundreds of them become one request.
Worker
Counts your 50 daily checks, answers obvious junk instantly for free, and forwards the rest.
Verifier
Checks whether the mailbox exists and returns the verdict, which flows back into your cell.
If something looks off
Most problems are one of these.
The cell shows #NAME?
Excel has not loaded the add-in. Close Excel completely, including any copy in the system tray, and open it again. If it still shows, run the installer again.
The cell shows #BLOCKED
You have used your 50 checks for today. The count resets at 00:00 UTC.
The cell shows #OFFLINE or #TIMEOUT
Excel could not reach the service, or a check took too long. Check your connection, then select the cell, press F2 and Enter to try again.
Does an address with a typo count against my 50?
Addresses that cannot possibly be valid, like ones with no @ or with spaces, are answered instantly and are not counted.
How do I remove it?
Close Excel first, then:
Windows. In PowerShell run $env:VE_UNINSTALL='1'; irm https://verifyemail.verifyemail-worker.workers.dev/install | iex. It removes the add-in. The install ID it saved on this PC is kept, so if you install it again later you carry on with the same daily allowance.
Mac. In Terminal run curl -fsSL https://verifyemail.verifyemail-worker.workers.dev/install-mac | VE_UNINSTALL=1 bash, then restart Excel.
By hand (Windows). In Excel choose File, Options, Add-ins, then Manage “Excel Add-ins” and Go. Untick VerifyEmail, then delete %APPDATA%\Microsoft\AddIns\VerifyEmail.xlam.
Excel on the web. Insert, Add-ins, My Add-ins, and remove it there.
What happens to the addresses I check?
They go to this service and on to the verification provider, and nowhere else. Results are kept for about two days. Read the privacy page for the details.
